Villa Controni, nestled below Monte Pisano on the southern outskirts of Lucca, is an historic 19th century Lucchese villa set on a stunning estate of hill terraced olive groves, elegant Italian gardens and pine forest hilltops with castle ruins. Panoramic views reach out across Lucca and Nottolini’s aqueduct and a pretty walled garden provides a peaceful and relaxing setting for the swimming pool and summerhouse with workout room.

In keeping with the villa’s gentle and enchanting atmosphere, the unique interiors are elegantly furnished with style and charm and offer 11 frescoed guest rooms all with en-suite facilities for up to 22 guests.

With three living rooms, a study area, a billiard room, a grand banquet room and the shady retreat of an arched loggia, the villa offers larger groups plenty of opportunity to relax in each other’s company or enjoy moments of escape and privacy.

The interior of Villa Contron, from the glittering chandeliers and plush area rugs to the brightly painted paneling that lines the sitting and dining rooms. A quiet study shows the same elegance on a smaller scale, while the fully equipped kitchen is large enough to cater for a special event. Despite the villa’s history, it has modern features from Wi-Fi and air conditioning to satellite television as well.

Each of the villa’s eleven sumptuous bedrooms with en-suite bathroom, ten of them have double beds and one offers the choice of a queen bed or two twin beds. The magnificent stone floors and traditional furnishings, and the sweeping views of the countryside out the windows are just part of the magic

Villa Controni includes chef service at breakfast and lunch or dinner. Spend your stay taking in the views across the olive groves to the Nottolini aqueduct, breathing in the scent of the flowers in the walled garden, stretching out on sun lounger by the pool or trying out local specialties from the barbecue at the al-fresco dining area.

In addition you can also work out in the gym or for the more energetic guests tennis at the exclusive Tennis Club is just a 5 minutes drive away or horseback riding just a 10 minutes

The property even has a private chapel that can be used for weddings on request

The historic centre of Lucca is just 7 km away, a town famous for its medieval ramparts, also known as the town of the 100 Churches, full of charm with typical shops with local products and groceries and restaurants, it is a hidden gem where time seems to stand still.

Pisa airport and its historic centre is only 22 km away, Florence and Siena only 1 hour’s drive away. The vast, sandy and world-famous Versilia coastline is just a 20 minutes drive, the area is famous for the top quality restaurants, amusing nightlife and various designer boutiques.

Monte Pisano is historically noted as being one of the main battlefields in the many wars between Pisa and Lucca which started in 1000 and continued for over 400 years. The villa itself was built as the summer residence of the Controni family, noble merchants who, in 1680, took over what is now Palazzo Pfanner in the centre of Lucca. In 1692 Carlo Controni invited prince Frederick of Denmark and Norway as a guest whilst he was visiting Lucca during his Grand Tour of Italy. For many years the fertile estate that provided housing for workers, a chapel, stables and an olive oil press, was used for the cultivation of rare flowers. The estate is famous because it was the residence of Felice Matteucci, the father of the combustion engine, who invented it in 1853.

The historic town of Lucca features many attractions and unlimited historic charm. Take a stroll or rent a bicycle and ride on its ancient walls and through the town past famous monuments, several churches and the Guinigi Tower, which has trees planted at the top. North of Lucca, the famous Garfagnana Valley extends for miles, a splendid natural vista of mountains and hills.
